Setup

Ready Before Your Tea Gets Cold

One setting in TallyPrime is the only real step. Do it once, and from then on your bank statements can go straight into Tally whenever you open it.

Add to Chrome — FreeStep 2 below, done

Step by step

  1. Use the computer where Tally runs. The extension works with the TallyPrime on the same computer, so open Chrome on that one.
  2. Add the extension to Chrome. Click Add to Chrome on this page, then Add extension. It is free and there is no account to create.
  3. Switch on Tally’s connection setting. In TallyPrime press F1, then go to Settings → Connectivity → Client/Server configuration. Set “TallyPrime acts as” to Both and the port to 9000, then accept. If Tally asks to restart, let it. You only ever do this once.
  4. Open your company in Tally. Load the company you want your bank entries to go into.
  5. Open the extension. Click the extension’s icon in Chrome. The indicator at the top shows Tally connected when everything is ready.
  6. Choose a data folder, if you like. In Settings, pick a folder on your computer. It adds automatic backups, a statement inbox and an easy move to a new computer. You can skip this and do it later.

What you need

  • Google Chrome and TallyPrime on the same computer
  • Your bank statement as an Excel or CSV file

If it does not connect

It says Tally is not reachable. What should I check?

Make sure TallyPrime is open on the same computer as Chrome, that “TallyPrime acts as” is set to Both, and that the port is 9000. If Tally uses a different port on your computer, enter the same port in the extension’s Settings.

It says “Tally up, no company”.

Tally is running but no company is loaded. Open your company in Tally and the indicator changes to connected.

Do I have to change this setting again later?

No. Tally remembers it, so the next time you open Tally and your company, the extension connects by itself.
